Photography in Yosemite

As John Muir once wrote; “the most striking and sublime features on the grandest scale, is the Yosemite”. Yosemite is known to be part of The Range of Light and is one of the most photographed places on earth. The scenery is spectacular with its tall granite walls, waterfalls and beautiful wildlife. One can’t help but to snap picture after picture of this wonderful place.

Half Dome: Can be photographed anywhere in Yosemite Valley, try to get some foreground framing from trees. A popular place is on Sentinel Bridge very late in the afternoon. You may be able to photograph a warmly lighted Half Dome reflected in the water. For an elevated view, try Glacier Point. Half Dome and the Sierras glow an orange-yellow with the setting sun, and it illuminates Half Dome. After the sun sets, wait for an afterglow that often contributes to an even warmer, more spectacular view.

Yosemite Falls: The best time to photograph Yosemite Falls, especially the upper falls, is early in the morning. That's when sunlight hits the rushing water so that the falls really stand out while the background remains in shadow.

Yosemite Valley: For a spectacular photograph from about 2,000 feet above the valley, try the entrance of the Wawona Tunnel. From here, you can picture El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. The late afternoon is best, as you won’t be looking into the sun. There is a parking lot and it makes it easy to take your time for that perfect shot.

Giant Sequoias: No matter which of these giant trees you are photographing, be sure to include something for size comparison.

There are several locations to take photographs, but no matter where you choose, they will be amazing.
